Rome, GA - a.k.a. Home Sweet Rome, There's No Place Like Rome

The city has developed on seven hills with the rivers running between them, similar to Rome, Italy, which inspired early settlers to name it after the Italian city.
In the 1920s, a US company built a rayon plant in a joint project with an Italian company. This project and the American city of Rome were honored by Italy in 1929, when dictator Benito Mussolini sent a replica of the statue of Romulus and Remus nursing from a mother wolf, a symbol of the founding, much like the original Rome.
This is Braves country! The Atlanta Braves like keeping things close to home. The Braves' single A minor league affiliate is the Rome Braves.
